Futurist Gerd Leonhard Looks Back From The Near Future

In a recent Post Gerd Leonhard explores the great transformation catalyzed by COVID-19. He uses this quote from Milton Friedman to focus on the need to think differently.

“Only a crisis – actual or perceived – produces real change. When that crisis occurs, the actions that are taken depend on the ideas that are lying around. That, I believe, is our basic function: to develop alternatives to existing policies, to keep them alive and available until the politically impossible becomes the politically inevitable”

As I have been saying, we were already in a period of crisis, where those hidden cracks accumulate over time until a Great Reset is the only option. A major, visible crisis such as this one could serve as a catalyst, forcing a look at alternatives that were already desperately needed. Using an approach called backcasting, Gerd looks back from late 2020 to envision scenarios. As you read his post, remember, these are projections from the future. The scenarios envision several transformational shifts: a global shift in consciousness as a result of this crisis; hyper-collaboration on a global scale became the new normal; the socio-economic consequences of this crisis dwarf those of the Great Depression; loneliness, isolation and desperation have proven deadly; countries that subscribed to ‘extreme capitalism’ have slipped into chaos in 2020.
